Two weeks after the global pandemic Coronavirus started spreading in South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa announced a 21-day lockdown.  People are counting down the days until the lockdown ends when we can all go outside again and stop quarantining. As you wait you can begin to plan the adventure that awaits you.

Visit Cape Town’s beautiful attractions

Cape Town has some of the most outstanding views in the world. Planning a day out with your friends and family can be a great way to transition from spending more than a month as a hermit to having time outdoors.

Here are 3 popular attractions to visit after lockdown:

  • V&A Waterfront

What it has to offer:  The Cape Wheel, shopping mall, food market, the aquarium and many more.

  • Grand West Casino

What it has to offer: A casino, Ice Skating, restaurants, bowling, an arcade and laser tag.

  • Bo-Kaap

What it has to offer: A museum, restaurants with authentic local food and free walking tours (tipping is recommended).

Eat out at Cape Town’s hottest new restaurants

As the days go by you start to realise that you haven’t stocked up on your favourite foods. You may even realise that you might not see another delicious pizza from your favourite pizza place in a while.

A treat to look forward to after lockdown:

  • Fire Monkey in Claremont
  • Sloppy Sam pop-up in De Waterkant
  • The Poke Co Kloof Street in Gardens

Get back into your social life

There’s so much to do here in the beautiful Mother City. Get back into the socials by partying at Cape Town’s vibey nightclubs. It’s a great chance to go out with friends, meet new people and groove to some music

Here are 3 places to go experience Cape Town’s nightlife:

  • Fiction, Longstreet
  • The Pink Panther Nightclub, in Strand De Waterkant
  • Cubana, Greenpoint

Things to keep in mind

Mental and physical health need to be the main priority during and after the lockdown. Try to schedule days that you use to connect with your loved ones and to adjust to the unfamiliarity that will come post lockdown. Try to support local businesses that are being heavily impacted by the lockdown. You can do this by donating to them, buying from markets, street vendors and any other small business.

Even though lockdown ends at the beginning of May, the threat is still real and it’s advised that citizens take it easy and not make any unnecessary trips. Remember to maintain good hygiene practices such as washing your hands regularly and using hand sanitizer. Also try to support as many local businesses as possible as they attempt to get things up and running again.
